And... one thing ...How about eating more variety?

And... one thing exercise did for me is that it changed my food preferences. The main product of exercise is fitness, and you get to lose weight as a bonus. (I gained 17 pounds in two months and shed them by running - afterwards, I never bought peanut butter again in the next 11 years)

Try stretching and aerobic lessons - you will not have to go to the gym and clock yourself on a treadmill that way. If you do go to the gym, ellipticals are a good start if you want to minimize impact to your knees and ankles.

There is a lot of fat in the cream and salad dressings. And artificial sweeteners - most of them are bad for you. I remember reading an article on aspartame (present in some chewing gums and diet coke and fat-free yogurts), and walked away determined not to take any of it. It's strange that many fat-free products use aspartame as well.

I'll add that high consumption of fats has been linked to high risks of colon cancer. Stress is considered a high contributing factor to the development of chronic diseases.

Eat a variety + Sleep well + Exercise + Lower stress -> health :)

YuAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27945613.post-41557901459226466342011-11-23T02:57:29.433-07:002011-11-23T02:57:29.433-07:00HI Friend. It's more complex than that. I have to believe that because my sister is diabetic and even though she has cut way back on carbs and eats less now she hasn't lost any weight at all.Susannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27945613.post-36056992584624312102011-10-24T20:05:40.672-06:002011-10-24T20:05:40.672-06:00I think the basic idea of interval training is rea...I think the basic idea of interval training is really simple: do sprints (or an equivalent activity at the highest intensity you can manage) for about 1 minute at a time, two or three times, interspersed with a cool-off period where you do something like walk at a moderate pace until you feel recovered. I think that's how you start.

This article at Sparkpeople matches what I've read; they suggest a whole 8-week program, but, whatever - I think just doing it is the big thing.Tamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18079829842465164437noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27945613.post-5533227185547499432011-10-23T20:28:19.308-06:002011-10-23T20:28:19.308-06:00Very interesting! I have read quite a bit of neurological research that backs up the food reward hypothesis and makes a pretty good case taken together for the idea that it's hyperpalatable food (and the cues we associate with those foods) that's a big problem here.

My mom's been reading about the fats issue recently as well - I think one book she recommends on this topic is Good Fats, Bad Fats.

I'm good on the moderate exercise but probably should try doing that interval stuff because I seem to be reading everywhere about how good it is for health/weight. Do you have any good web references for advice on interval training?Sallyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15376389949707679077noreply@blogger.com
