I am declaring a moratorium on purchases of durable goods, starting now and effective through August. This means no new clothes, furniture, kitchen supplies, toys, etc. - basically anything that is not consumed. (Obviously it would be much more radical to try to survive without groceries, paper products, cleaning supplies, etc. I'm not that radical.)
I think I have everything I need at this time, so I hope I can stick to this.

Wow, Tam, what prompted this? It's a pretty ambitious effort. Good luck!
I will be curious whether your restaurant expenses increase threefold as you channel spending into acceptable areas :)
Hopefully my desire to spend money is not fixed at a particular monetary amount. This is kind of like hoping that ceasing to eat carbs will make you lose weight, I guess, although that does seem to work for a lot of people.
It was prompted by realizing I've really gotten into the habit of just buying everything I think of. I want to kind of break the habit for a while.
We'll see.
Well said.
