I admit that I find it weird to find the recent comments, archives, etc., on the left side of the screen, but I hope I will get used to it. It must be conventional for these things to be on the right for your layout to strike me as 'wrong' in some fundamental sense.
But aside from this switcharoo, I like the content and style you are using in the new layout.

Also this means on days when I need a boost to my self esteem, I can write a comment that will reflect well on me on the "commentary" list.
